ROG Strix • X870-F Gaming WiFi • AMD AM5
Build around the connections that matter.
ROG Strix X870-F Gaming WiFi combines an AMD AM5 socket, four DDR5 slots and an ATX layout with two USB4 ports, Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet and Wi-Fi 7. Four M.2 positions give storage room to grow, but their lane sharing matters: populating M.2_2 reduces the primary graphics slot to x8, and using M.2_3 disables the chipset expansion slot. Choose the processor, memory kit and drive layout as one system.

Platform and power
An AM5 foundation with room to tune.
The X870 chipset and AM5 socket support listed Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 desktop processors. ASUS specifies a 16+2+2 power-stage arrangement, with dual 8-pin CPU power inputs, substantial VRM heatsinks and 5K metallic capacitors. Confirm the exact processor on the CPU support list and the required BIOS before installation; socket compatibility alone does not establish every processor and shipping firmware combination.
Memory planning
Four slots. Choose the population deliberately.
Four DDR5 DIMM slots support up to 256GB total, with dual-channel architecture, AMD EXPO and ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile support. The advertised 8000+MT/s figure is an overclocked capability that depends on the processor, module kit, BIOS and population. It is not a guaranteed speed for four high-capacity modules. Match the exact kit and installed module count against ASUS qualification data; default operation follows the module SPD.
Graphics and storage
Map the lanes before adding the drives.
With Ryzen 9000 or 7000 processors, the primary slot supports PCIe 5.0 x16 and M.2_1/M.2_2 support PCIe 5.0 x4. Occupying M.2_2 reduces that graphics slot to x8. The chipset provides M.2_3/M.2_4 at PCIe 4.0 x4, but M.2_3 shares with the lower expansion slot and disables it when occupied. Ryzen 8000 changes the primary slot to PCIe 4.0 x8/x4, limits M.2_1 to PCIe 4.0 x4/x2 and disables M.2_2; check the particular CPU.
Rear and front connections
Fast ports, with distinct roles.
The rear panel combines two 40Gbps USB4 Type-C ports, six 10Gbps USB ports and four 5Gbps Type-A ports. One of the 10Gbps Type-C connections supports up to 30W USB Power Delivery; the USB4 ports are specified separately at up to 5V/3A. An internal 20Gbps Type-C connector and four each of 5Gbps and USB2 ports support a suitably equipped chassis. DisplayPort, HDMI and USB4 display output depend on the processor graphics and connected display.
Network and sound
Connect the room and the peripherals.
Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet provides the wired connection, while the supplied Q-Antenna serves a 2×2 Wi-Fi 7 module. ASUS lists Qualcomm or MediaTek module variants, so inspect the board label before selecting wireless drivers. Full Wi-Fi 7 functions require Windows 11 24H2 or later, suitable networking equipment and permitted regional bands. SupremeFX ALC4080 audio, a Savitech amplifier and optical S/PDIF provide several audio paths; rear line-out does not support spatial audio.
Cooling and assembly
Make installation and diagnostics easier.
Dedicated CPU, CPU OPT and AIO pump headers sit alongside five chassis-fan headers, while three Addressable Gen2 headers support compatible lighting. M.2 heatsinks and a backplate support the storage installation. Q-Latch, Q-Release, Q-Slide and PCIe Slot Q-Release Slim simplify component handling, with Q-LED indicators for CPU, memory, graphics and boot checks. BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons are on the rear panel; follow the exact model manual before using them.
Control and software
Tune with the hardware in view.
ASUS provides AI Overclocking, AI Cooling II through Fan Xpert4, GameFirst and Armoury Crate/Aura tools, alongside UEFI BIOS controls and monitoring utilities. Overclocking results depend on the chosen processor, cooling and memory. Bundled AIDA64, Adobe, Norton and WinRAR offers are time-limited trials or promotions, subject to availability and terms; they are not perpetual licences. Download drivers and firmware from the exact X870-F support route and match the installed wireless module and operating system.
