ASUS • PRIME B550M-K ARGB
A focused AM4 build. With room for colour.
The PRIME B550M-K ARGB combines the familiar AM4 platform with dual M.2 storage, wired Gigabit networking and addressable lighting connections. Its two-slot DDR4 layout and compact micro-ATX footprint suit a carefully planned PC, with CPU-dependent PCIe support and front USB-C connectivity kept clearly in view.

AM4 platform
Choose the CPU, then check its BIOS.
ASUS lists Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series and 3000 Series desktop processors. Match the exact processor to the CPU support list and required BIOS rather than treating the AM4 socket alone as approval. HDMI and DisplayPort need a processor with suitable integrated graphics; a CPU without graphics needs a discrete card.
Memory layout
Two slots. A clear upgrade plan.
The board supports up to 64GB of unbuffered DDR4 across two channels. The manual explicitly lists modules up to 32GB each, so a matched two-module kit can use both channels while occupying both slots. ASUS lists rates up to DDR4-5100 with overclocking; supported speed and ECC operation depend on the CPU and memory configuration.
Graphics and drives
Keep processor-dependent lanes in mind.
With the listed Ryzen 5000 and 3000 desktop families, the primary graphics slot and M.2_1 support PCIe 4.0. The listed 5000 G-Series and 4000 G-Series run those connections at PCIe 3.0. A chipset M.2_2 position, four SATA ports and a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot provide additional choices. Both M.2 positions support PCIe and SATA modes, with different supported drive lengths.
Everyday connections
Put the useful ports within reach.
Four rear USB 5Gbps Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 ports handle peripherals, with internal headers for a front USB-C port, two more 5Gbps ports and four USB 2.0 ports. Realtek 1Gb Ethernet provides the wired network connection. Rear audio and the case’s HD-audio module work together for supported 7.1-channel output.
Cooling and lighting
Tune airflow. Coordinate the lighting.
A chipset heatsink, hybrid fan control and Fan Xpert 2+ support the cooling setup. The board provides one CPU-fan header and two chassis-fan headers, along with a 24-pin main power connector and an 8-pin CPU power connector. Three Addressable Gen 2 headers connect compatible lighting for Aura Sync control; lighting devices and case fans are separate components.
Assembly details
A compact board with practical diagnostics.
Q-DIMM and Q-Slot help with component installation, while Q-LED Core supports power-LED diagnostic signalling. The UEFI offers EZ Mode and ASUS EZ Flash 3, with CrashFree BIOS 3 recovery support. Confirm the chassis standoff pattern and the 24.4 × 22.1cm board dimensions, and use the supplied I/O shield when fitting the motherboard.
