Bring the network together in one rack space.
A gateway, a managed PoE switch and a UniFi application console share a single 1U chassis. The Dream Machine Special Edition combines 2.5GbE copper WAN and 10G SFP+ connectivity with eight Gigabit LAN ports, 180 W of shared PoE capacity and integrated 128 GB SSD storage. It is a practical centre for a planned UniFi installation, with a separate 3.5-inch drive bay for expanded recording storage.

The default WAN interfaces are one 2.5GbE RJ45 port and one 10G SFP+ port, with a second SFP+ interface available for the LAN. Link speed describes the physical connection; Ubiquiti separately specifies 3.5Gbps IDS/IPS throughput. Actual routing performance depends on traffic, security features and configuration.
Integrated PoE
Power a small device group from the rack.
Eight Gigabit RJ45 LAN ports provide six PoE and two PoE+ outputs. Their shared 180 W budget must cover the connected equipment as a whole, while each port also has its own power limit. Check the powered device’s standard, demand and cable run when planning access points, cameras or other compatible equipment.
Applications and storage
Give management and recording a home.
The console supports the UniFi Network, Protect, Access, Talk and Connect application suite. It contains 16 GB eMMC and an integrated 128 GB SSD, plus one 3.5-inch NVR drive bay. An expansion hard drive and connected cameras or access devices are separate. Recording retention and application capacity depend on the installed storage and workload.
Policy and connectivity
Build the network rules deliberately.
Stateful firewall, traffic identification, VLAN segmentation, VPN and multi-WAN functions are part of the platform. Select and configure the features for the deployed UniFi software and topology. Optional security subscriptions and other paid services must be assessed separately; they are not assumed included.
Rack and power
Separate power capacity from power use.
The internal 240 W supply accepts 100–240 V AC at 50/60 Hz. Manufacturer device consumption is 50 W excluding PoE output; 240 W is the supply rating. A USP-RPS DC backup input supports an appropriate separately purchased backup system. The 442.4 mm-wide chassis occupies 1U, with a 1.3-inch touchscreen for local status.
Installation details
Leave room for access and ventilation.
The enclosure measures 442.4 ×285.6 ×43.7 mm in width, depth and height and weighs approximately 5 kg. Maintain the specified −10°C to 40°C operating range and non-condensing environment, and follow the exact-model installation guide. Check the supplied EU power-cord arrangement and appropriate South African connection before installation.
